#1 Dads, the side project of Big Scary frontman Tom Iansek, has this morning graced triple j‘s Like A Version with a sterling cover of FKA twigs’ 2014 single Two Weeks, as well as an original track.
First up, Iansek and his pal Ainslie Wills performed So Soldier, a cut from #1 Dads’ latest studio album, About Face, released in August last year. Backed only by an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar, Iansek and Wills stripped the track back to its fundamental melodies, with hypnotic effect.
Next, Iansek and a larger crew took a shot at English producer FKA twigs’ hit single Two Weeks, with vocals provided by Lowlakes frontman Tom Snowdon, who appeared on the haunting #1 Dads single Return To. The group’s FKA twigs cover managed to stay true to the song’s crisp electronics and sensual lyrics despite only having rehearsed the track a limited amount of times.
#1 Dads have also announced their last ever live shows, with dates secured in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. “July is the last chance to see us headline before the live show gets put to rest,” says #1 Dads. Iansek will be joined by a full band as well as Ainslie Wills and Tom Snowdon on the tour.
